Original Grant Overview
Goal
Students will improve overall receptive and expressive language skills. The Story Champs kit will help the students meet their language goals (per their IEP) and Florida Curriculum ELA Standards.
What will be done with my students
The SLP will use the Story Champs kit with students during language therapy. The Story Champs kit will provide students with the materials to work on curriculum standards and language therapy goals (per their IEP). Students will listen to stories, ask questions, answer questions, retell story elements, define vocabulary, use appropriate grammar, etc.
Benefits to my students
I will incorporate the Story Champs kit into my language therapy sessions with my students (PK-5th grade - approx. 85 students).
The Story Champ support 3 tiers of intervention – large group, small group, and individual settings. The Story Champs intervention includes 24 stories, corresponding illustrations, and vibrant storytelling icons that represent key story grammar elements. These icons are used throughout Story Champs to help visually reinforce the key story grammar elements. With over 20 feasibility and efficacy studies, Story Champs has produced robust effects for language development in early childhood for a wide range of learners, often in a short amount of time. The Story Champs kit can be used for a variety of functions and can be used from year to year from student to student.
