Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 500

Our Science team on both high school and middle school have been impacted by the funding of this grant.  Pictured here are 6th grade students unlocking clues to help prepare them for the end of unit exams and understanding of challenging science concepts.  During our PLC's we have collaborated to plan maningful lessons, utilized our district resources and personell within the science team, and continue to teach our students through the challenges.  It was been very rewarding to watch their excitement when they see the lock boxes out and they know they are going to participate in escape rooms. On April 28th we are hosing a biology escape room review with our entire students who are enrolled in biology.  We would love to have a Futures member come out and watch our students in action.  This has been a very rewarding lesson not only for our students but for our science team at Taylor. Thank-you.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The Science Department would like to encourage our students to dig deep in their learning of science standards and engaged in understanding difficult concepts by creating Escape Room themed learning stations to use when reviewing concepts.

Category

School supplies - Markers, paints, paper, crayons, clay, pencils, sharpies, modeling dough, etc.

What will be done with my students

Our science teachers will use the supplies purchased to create escape room challenges based on science standards, to review concepts, and students will participate during class using these supplies and our lessons created. Can our students escape out? With this Futures funded grant our students will be challenged and we will see! Standards to be covered for 8th grade & Biology include for first semester:
SC.8.N.1.1, SC.8.N.3.2, SC.8.P.8.7, SC.8.P.8.6, SC.8.P.8.5, SC.8.P.8.9, SC.8.P.8.8, SC.8.P.8.4, SC.8.P.8.3, SC.8.P.8.2
SC.912.N.1.1, SC.912.L.16.17, SC.912.L.14.1, SC.912.L.18.1, SC.912.L.18.9, SC.912.L.14.3, SC.912.L.18.12, SC.912.L.16.3

Benefits to my students

Students no longer learn best in a “sit and get” model, or teacher directed learning environment. The supplies we purchase will serve our students best as they are independently thinking, collaborating with peers, and utilizing science concepts, to “escape” out of a task using clues and hands on activities.

Budget Narrative

The purchasing of these items will be used interchangeably with all 8th grade science standards and Biology standards. Other science teachers will also use them as they collaborate with our team.
