Currently 5 out of my 18 first grade students are at or below the 40th Percentile Rank on STAR Reading. My goal is to have all 18 students at or above the 40th Percentile Rank on their final STAR Reading assessment this current school year. I plan on reaching this goal by incorporating the use of more technology in our day to day Reading and Language Arts instruction. I am seeking two IPAD Minis with Kids Safe Handle Cases in order to have more devices available for my students.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 18

My goal was to have all 18 students at or above the 40th Percentile Rank on the STAR Reading assessment by the end of the year with the use of the IPads. At the beginning of the year I only had 5 students that were at or above the 40th Percentile Rank. Throughout the year we used the IPads to access applications such as Bookflix, Compass Learning, and Starfall. By the end of this year 16 of the 18 students were at or above the 40th Percentile Rank on the STAR Reading assessment. I believe that the use of the IPads helped tremendously in the growth of my students.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Currently 5 out of my 18 first grade students are at or below the 40th Percentile Rank on STAR Reading. My goal is to have all 18 students at or above the 40th Percentile Rank on their final STAR Reading assessment this current school year. I plan on reaching this goal by incorporating the use of more technology in our day to day Reading and Language Arts instruction. I am seeking two IPAD Minis with Kids Safe Handle Cases in order to have more devices available for my students.

What will be done with my students

My class consists of 18 students each have their own unique learning styles. Through the use of these Ipads, I will be able to reach the needs of all 18 of my current students as well as every future student who enters my classroom. With the Ipads, my students will have access to applications such as Bookflix, Compass Learning, and Starfall to help each of them grow as readers. Our Ipads will be used primarily during literacy centers each day. Students will be given the opportunity to work independently on skills that will help them grow.

Benefits to my students

In order to determine the effectiveness of integrating technology into our English Language Arts (ELA), I will be progress monitoring my students through the form of weekly assessments and STAR Reading assessments. Through the increased literacy experiences, I believe that by the end of the school year, all 18 students in my class will be at or above the 40th percentile rank on their STAR assessment. I also expect to see growth in their ELA grades as well. I will be able to use this strategy for many years to come as the Ipads will be available to each of my classes.
