Goal

The goal for my students is to give intensive reading instruction. The students will be reading with 80% accuracy or higher when finishing the Wilson Reading Intervention program. The goal is for all students who use this intervention to master each step when assessed and be able to progress to the next with having the intensive instruction.

What will be done with my students

As a K-3 interventionist at Mossy Head School we have many students who need a small group intervention to help with phonics and reading. We currently only have two Wilson Intervention Kits at our school, and they are currently checked out by other teachers. As an interventionist, I would love to be able to purchase more kits and to use this intervention with my students who are struggling readers and to implement tactile ways to learn phonics and to teach them to read. This intervention would be used in a small group setting, anywhere from 3-6 students. Students will be assessed before starting the program and will be placed at their level. Progress monitoring will be done weekly to see how well the students progress using the intervention. What skills are not mastered will be retaught until mastery is shown.

Benefits to my students

This program will help students with phonics. Wilson is great about using tactile strategies to help students learn how to read and spell fluently. This program can follow students grade to grade and also presents the materials in steps and not corresponding to their grade level. This program is beneficial to students to help with decoding, morphology and the study of word elements, encoding and orthography (internalizing the rules that govern English), high frequency word instruction, oral reading fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

Budget Narrative

Line 1 and 2 Wilson Introductory Kits Steps (1-6) 4th Edition- This kit is the program. In order to be successful the kit has everything needed to instruct the program effectively to students.
Lines (3-4)- Lesson Plan Poster- This poster will be hung up in the classroom as a resource to use for teachers and students to help with time management when implementing the program.
Lines (5-8) Student Workbooks- Each student who is receiving this instruction will need a workbook for each step. The student workbooks work great with the steps of the program to provide a resource for the teacher and students.
