Goal

The objectives for this grant are:
To enhance student's ability to write grade level essays that include an introduction, three main points and a conclusion.

To provide students with knowledge of current events around the world while practicing their comprehension skills.

Project Summary:
Today's Readers Tomorrow's Leaders will provide students with the resources and skills they need to become incredible writers, readers, and lifelong learners. The Top Score Writing digital curriculum will allow my students the opportunity to access hundreds of quality writing lessons, games and activities from their own devices. Access to these lessons will give them individualized instructions based on the writing skills that they are lacking and allow me to differentiate my writing instruction. Scholastic News will be used to keep my students up to date with current world news and events while using their reading comprehension skills. Scholastic News will address news and events in a kid-friendly way that students can understand.  

What will be done with my students

Project Activities:
Today's Readers Tomorrow's Leaders will impact almost 35 students in my ELA/SS classroom.

A Scholastic News subscription will give each of my students their own print and digital copy to a Scholastic News issue. They will also have access to non-fiction videos that correlate with the Scholastic News articles and grade level standards. My students will also have access to 32 learning games and 64 printable activity sheets to keep my students engaged both at home and at school. The topics covered in the Scholastic News articles are all related to the grade level standards and have engaging themes that correlate to each month in the year.

The Top Score Writing Digital student and teacher curriculum will be used daily during writing instruction time. The students will have access to this at home and at school to work on key writing skills.  

Benefits to my students

The Top Score Writing Digital student and teacher curriculum will not only benefit my students this year but in the years to come. The grade level curriculum will enhance students writing skills while ensuring that they have mastered basic writing elements that are needed in years to come. Providing students with such a strong writing background will allow them to be successful as the continue their education. The curriculum explicitly addresses essay writing and all elements that are required to write a strong essay.

Scholastic News will keep my students up to date on current events while addressing grade level standards and correlating to monthly events and topics. Scholastic News will keep my students engaged with the printable and online activities and games that correlate with the featured text.
