Goal

The goal is to engage multi age/multi-level learners in STEM and 21st Century skills with Rubik's Cubes. 

What will be done with my students

Students will master solving the Rubik’s Edges, Rubik’s Minis, Rubik’s Cubes, and Rubik’s Masters through a series of common core aligned standards that incorporate a high level of problem solving and higher order thinking skills. Students will engage in lessons on: the history of games and puzzles; how animals learn through play; architecture and design - building blocks; engineering and construction of a 2x2 cube; physics of the Cube; memory and learning; and technology and communication. They will also create Rubik's Mosaics by using teamwork and collaboration to solve 25 different mosaic puzzles. Because this group of students are high achieving, I have also requested the Middle School STEM Unit that includes: games & puzzles around the world, building a 2x2 Rubik's Cube, Fibonacci's perfect spiral, game variations, Mixed Up Math, pixel art, ratio & reasoning, and codon critters. These students come to my class for 2-3 hours per week and this curriculum can be implemented immediately. I will be responsible for implementing this curriculum in the gifted classroom. If I receive this grant, I will start when we return from Christmas break. Everything needed to start, implement, and finish this curriculum is included in the requested budget. This curriculum can be used year after year.  

Benefits to my students

Lessons aligned to Common Core, National and State standards. This program supports STEM/STEAM content and teaching using an authentic learning experience. It also promotes 21st Century Skills such as problem solving, critical thinking, perseverance and logical thinking. Finally, it enables students to develop confidence and a more positive attitude about learning.  

Budget Narrative

The total includes: Rubik's Cube (3x3) Mosaic Kit, Elementary STEM Unit Bundle, Rubik's Complete Mixed Cube Education Kit, The Geometry, The Art, The Solution Unit, Middle School STEM Unit, and Shipping costs.
