Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 40

My students were so excited to receive the Ipads that we requested. This gave every student the opportunity to work on a device at the same time. Being one-to-one with devices, also made it possible for me to make my classrom one step closer to becoming a paperless classroom. I did not receive the technology requested until the end of April/First of May. Students did not get a lot of time on the devices becasue we got them so late in the year and we were taking FSA. Below you can see the data that was collected by My Path on the number of lessons passed by the students, as well as the number of hours, and minutes spent in the program by the students. These numbers are going to grow by leaps and bounds next year because I will start off day 1 with every student having a device to use in the classroom.

Next year I plan to use them with multiple different programs to increase student learning and engagement as well as to work toward becoming paperless by using Showbie. Showbie is a platform that allows teachers to upload PDF documents so that students can use their devices to answer questions, type written responses, and then submit them to their teacher to be graded. Teachers can then grade them and return the graded assignment back to the students. See the photo below of what this platform looks like

I would like to thank the St. Joe Fundation for thier support of the students at my school. This is an investment in education that impacted students this year and for many years to come.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

I would like to add 5 Ipads to my classroom so that every student in my classroom can work on a computer at the same time, while also working at their level.

What will be done with my students

This year I am a math and science teacher to about 40 students in both of my classes. We have a program called My Path. This is a program that assesses students and then puts them on a path based on their knowledge of math and reading skills. With the addition of 5 Ipads to my classroom, all of my students would be able to work on the program at the same time, while I offer individualized instruction to students who need it. Also by adding these Ipads to my classroom, future students will benefit for many years to come. I can also share the extra technology with my partner teacher, it is needed in her reading classroom.

My Path is not the only program that students will be doing on the added computers. Students can work on other math and science programs such as Moby Max, a program similar to My Path that puts students at their level to work; Xtra Math, a program where students practice their math facts; and Compass Learning, a program that reinforces science skills, are just a few of the many programs that my students will have access to once we are able to add 5 more Ipads to our classroom

Benefits to my students

With the addition of 5 Ipads to our classroom, students who are below grade level will have the opportunity to practice skills that they may not have mastered in previous years. This will help them get up to grade level faster and hopefully improve their FSA scores. Students who are above grade level, will get enrichment on topics, thus not holding them back, but allowing them to grow more in their learning

Through the use of STAR data, I would like for 20% of my students to make a learning gain on their STAR assessment. A learning gain is considered to be growing from 1 level to the next. (Ex: low 1 to mid 1; mid 1 to high 1; high 1 to low 2; low 2 to high 2; high 2 to 3; 3 to 4; or 4 to 5) This will be determined based on STAR data that is gathered 4 times throughout the year.

Budget Narrative

I would like to add 5 Ipads to my classroom. These 5 Ipads will allow all of my students to have access to technology at all times. This will allow them to work at their level and make gains in their academic achievement.
