The way to get kids to read and love it is to let them choose their own books, in their own interest level. Recent reports from varied studies found that children's reading for outside school had a significant impact on their educational achievement.
Students will have the opportunity to take home and read Magic Tree House book series. After reading their book, student will complete an Accelerated Reader Quiz to check their comprehension.
Literacy is NO longer an option in the classrooms or outside of them. The single most important part of education is literacy. It is essential for learning. Having access to developmentally appropriate books and being read aloud to early and often are two of the most important factors in early brain development and early literacy development. Unfortunately a large percentage of children, especially in Title I schools, come from low-income homes and families. These children do not have books at home and whose parents do not read to them on a regular basis. Dania Elementary student population is composed of over 80% poverty level – our students tend to have less access to books, computers, the Internet, and educational software than other more affluent peers. The Magic Tree House Grant will help me provide books that my students can take home on a daily basis.
