Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
Danny Davis - $50.00
Students will develop good reading habits showing an 80% mastery of letter and sound recognition by the end of May 2017. These skills are essential to reading success!
Students will be given the opportunity to "find" new books to read in the classroom. Next, they can read with a peer and discuss the book. Lastly, they can have "fun with it" by getting to take their new book home to read and share with their family! This will develop not only a love of reading, but an effective and strong home-school connection. Teaching in a Title I school, with many of my students not having books in the home, students miss those wonderful, family stories read in the evening and at bedtime. Now, students can either begin an at-home library, or adding to books already at home.
Students will be eager to "find" new books in their classroom. On the week before the Winter Break along with the week before Spring Break, students will be given the new books to read over the breaks. Each student will receive at least 2 books. These will be cherished gifts that will develop life-long learners! In addition, this will be very special because books are cherished gifts that last a life-time!
Thank you for your support of our young readers as they begin to develop literacy skills which will increase their student achievement in not only reading, but science, math, social studies, technology, engineering, and the arts!
Books will be purchased from Scholastic Book Club. Each month Scholastic usually has a reasonably priced $1 book, perfect for beginning readers. Additional books purchased will be given as incentives or rewards to students throughout the year.
