Learning the alphabet is what we do in Kindergarten!

‘The Alligator to Zebra Carpet’ will provide the perfect place for kindergartners to learn conventions, phonics, and phonological awareness.

The 52 letters that are necessary for children to learn, along with the 26 sounds of each letter, can sometimes seem like a giant mountain to climb!

As a new kindergarten teacher my goal is to help my students learn their letters and sounds as fast as possible which is our goal with the Common Core Standards.

Unfortunately, most of my Title 1 students at Avalon Elementary are technically behind on day one of kindergarten, which is actually very sad for them, since it is only the beginning of their academic career. I need to get them caught up quickly, because research tells us that they will likely spend the rest of their school career getting farther and farther behind from this point on, because the achievement gap just continues to grow.
