Original Grant Overview

Goal

To host a county wide competition to enhance student involvement in mathematics and engineering as future careers.

What will be done with my students

Students from public and private middle schools in Collier County will come to Oakridge Middle School to compete in a mathematics competition. The competition will be formatted so that our students will feel more comfortable at the regional and state Mathcounts competitions.

Benefits to my students

Students gain confidence in their ability to apply mathematics. They are recognized for their achievements in the field of mathematics. It gives us, as educators, a public forum to celebrate their success. With an improved plan for obtaining photo releases, I would like to have the public celebrate the mathletes successes. It will also expose them to the field of engineering.

Budget Narrative

I personally know how excited the students are to have the opportunity to showcase their mathematical abilities. This local competition is important to prepare our students for the regional competition and we do not have a budget allotment to host this competition without community support.
