Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
Scripps Howard Foundation - $454.40
The goal of this grant is to replace award-winning chapter books used daily in the classroom. These books will be used this school year and for years to come.
Students will experience literature first hand. Unit lesson plans are already completed and in place for each title. Current sets of these books are missing pages and unable to be used. Each title is integrated across the curriculum. The book Hatchet will start the school year and center around the theme of success in the face of adversity and the importance of failure. Students complete various activities to promote a growth mindset while focusing on the language arts skills of theme, conflict, and setting. Chasing Vermeer integrates geometry and art history while utilizing critical thinking skills. The Witch of Blackbird Pond is a historical fiction that students will use to explore the Colonial period.
Students benefit from these books as they are integrated across the curriculum. Reading aloud to children stimulates their interest, their emotional development, and their imagination. It improves their verbal skills and they become better listeners. Students will benefit from following along as the teacher reads and taking home a copy of the chapter book to read and share at home.
Book sets are available from Barnes & Noble with no shipping cost. Chasing Vermeer is available through Amazon with no shipping cost.
