Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 12

I am very grateful for this grant. The grant has allowed my class and me the opportunity to explore new places, learn new things and experience new and interesting topics that are of interest to them. Using the magazine articles as well as the digital add on I was able to bring topics into our class that was of interest to them. Recently we read an article about space travel. The kids were excited and wanted to learn more about traveling in space. Having the digital Time for Kids feature allowed us to further explore the topic. I was easily able to bring up videos and others articles to answer all their questions. This allowed us to dig deeper into the topic in a fun and engaging way. Activities such this has increase their comprehension, their vocabulary and added to their background knowledge of many topics. Best of all, the kids love it!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My project goal is to enhance our Unique modified curriculum as well as helping my special needs students better understand the world around them. I would like to purchase a one year subscription to TIME for kids. This news magazine offers engaging articles, colorful maps, and vivid graphics that will motivate my students to read. Also included in this subscription is a digital resource that can be used on our interactive whiteboard or student computers.

What will be done with my students

Using the weekly magazine as well as the digital resources included with the subscription, my students will have access to a wide range of current real world topics. I plan to use TIME for kids daily to help build my students reading and writing skills across our curriculum in both small group reading lessons as well as whole group class discussions.

Benefits to my students

The benefits to including TIME for kids into my curriculum include, the availability of age appropriate printable classroom resources, access to online teaching tools as well as providing an additional resource to go along with our curriculum. With this subscription I hope to be able to provide my students with a fun and engaging way to better understand the world around them. This subscription would also be shared with the two other intermediate modified curriculum classroom teachers at my school.

Budget Narrative

In addition to the weekly classroom magazine the subscription also includes a classroom app that can be used on student computers as well as classroom I-pads, student assessments, interactive whiteboard activities, printable classroom resources, access to online teaching tools, a teacher’s guide as well as classroom extras such as graphic organizers and learning posters.
