Goal

Students will be enriched with a live theatrical journey of the memorable events and characters from the historical novel "The Red Badge of Courage".

What will be done with my students

Students will analyze the extent to which a live production of the story stays faithful or departs from the text. Students will analyze how particular lines of dialogue or incidents in the story propel the action, reveal aspects of a character, or provoke a decision. Students will hear the proper oral diction, enunciation and pronunciation of dialogue from the performers.Students will be engaged as an active listening audience for the professional performance. Teachers will be given Study Guides as a resource to integrate the performance in the classroom.

Benefits to my students

Students will follow Henry Fleming as he joins the Union Army with notions of what it would be like as a soldier in the Civil War. The play tells a story of courage, sacrifice, and fear that transcends through the years.

Budget Narrative

Touring price is for 300 eighth grade students to attend the performance.
