Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 25

My goal for the project was to provide a way for the students to explore many different aspects of science with a common theme. Each carefully designed experiment highlighted one of the fall holidays. With the help of dry ice, polymers, and an amazing kit from Steve Spangler, I was able to provide the students with over 12 different science experiments. I learned that my classroom is highly motivated with using hands on science experiments as well as more engaged and able to remember what they learned about the topic as compared to reading it in a text book. The students still talk about it today.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The students will explore many aspects of science with the use of dry ice, polymers, and goo in a fun and engaging way while learning important science standards.

What will be done with my students

To celebrate Fall the students will engage in a variety of science experiments. Many of the experiments, like the one pictured above, use dry ice. The students absolutely love the gooey, oozing, vanishing, and downright eerie parts of all of the experiments. The kit includes over 12 different science experiments for the class to enjoy.

Benefits to my students

Through the materials in the kit, young scientists will learn about acids, bases, indicators, polymers, fluorescence, and even environmental responsibility. That sounds like a lot, but when you're teaching and learning about these topics while having fun, everything is bound to stick! All of the science experiments connect to the 3rd grade standards.

Budget Narrative

I attended the grant writing workshop on Thursday, August 6th. These science experiments will motivate students to have a life long love of science.
