Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 18

The goal for the project was to integrate more technology in my classroom of English Language Learners. The students were extremely excited to be able to add additional Kindles to our classroom. We have been able to use these kindles for numerous activities including Kahoot interactive lessons, research, and apps to help with various skills. Small adjustments were made to ensure that students understood the proper way to handle and utilize the Kindles resulting in an increased impact on learning. I look forward to continuing to use the Kindles in new and innovative ways in the future.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to ensure that my First Grade students develop the technology skills that they will need for success in school and the workplace. I would love to increase the level of student engagement in reading by adding two Kindle Fire HD's to our classroom.

What will be done with my students

By integrating the use of the Kindle Fire e-reader tablet, students will have the opportunity to interact with text in a entirely new way. Students will be able to work either individually or in pairs to practice reading, writing, mathematics, science, and research. The integration of Kindles in the classroom will allow students the opportunity to become familiar with new technology and better prepare them for the growing digital world.

This project is so important because my students deserve a chance to interact with new technology in the classroom. Students will benefit by having increased opportunities to read books as well as practice vital skills through the use of various educational applications.

Benefits to my students

The benefit for my class of 19 students will be improved knowledge of 21st century technological tools and academic gains in reading and other content areas. One of the greatest benefits of using the Kindle Fire is that many different learning styles will be addressed. Students will receive information auditorily, visually, sometimes musically, and kinesthetically. Because of the multiple representations that the technological tools provide, learning will be more equitable and accessible for English Language Learners and for students with special needs.
