Goal

To improve student behavior by providing targeted small group character education instruction to students in grades K-2. 

What will be done with my students

The students will meet every week in small group for about 10 weeks. Each week we will focus on a different character trait. During the lessons, we will read a story and complete critical thinking activities to go along with the trait. At the end of the lesson, students will be provided with an extension activity to take home and share with their families. In order to track data, students will take a pre/post survey and teachers will be asked to complete a teacher survey based on classroom observations. This data will be used to determine the effectiveness of this program. 

Benefits to my students

Students will:
- have targeted instruction on 10 character traits in a small group setting
- participate in critical thinking activities with an emphasis in reading and writing
- practice speaking and listening skills
- be provided with extension activities to take home and share with their parents and/or family members 

Budget Narrative

The Character Education Kit comes with 10 character education books specific to the character traits we will be focusing on this school year at GGE. In addition to the books, the kit also includes posters and DVDs to reinforce the character traits. The students will receive a sticker and vocabulary card to go along with each trait they learn about in small group. There are also extension activities that students will be expected to take home and share with their families.
