Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
License For Learning Plate Fund - $300.00
Our goal is to fund a field trip to Florida Gulf Coast University for the Advanced Placement Chemistry students at Naples High School.
Students will participate in a lecture given by member(s) of the faculty in the Department of Chemistry and Physics. Students will then conduct a lab FGCU performs at the college level aligned with the AP Curriculum facilitated by a member(s) of the faculty. The FGCU Chemistry and Physics department offers to pay all costs for the materials for the lab experiment. During the trip, the faculty takes the students on the tour of the research labs where students will meet, converse, and learn about equipment and current research taking place at FGCU. Afterwards, the faculty has lunch with the students on the Dean's balcony.
This will be the 3rd visit to FGCU that I am arranging for Advanced Placement level science courses. The faculty at FGCU are incredibly welcoming, enlightening, and altruistic with their time teaching our high school students science concepts in a college atmosphere. Students envision themselves at college when they are actually studying in the college labs and taught by professionals in the science research. At the end of the school year, students always comment that the trip was the most rewarding experience in high school they have had thus far. A field trip of this nature is completely part of the curriculum and enhances a students' perspective of their future in science.
Students will be transported by the CCPS buses to and from FGCU campus, originating at Naples High School. We will be having lunch with the host faculty and ordering pizza from Jets (per the suggestion of the FGCU Department head). We will not have to provide lab materials, that will be provided by the FGCU faculty.
