Goal

I would like the students to have access to this wonderful collection of musical resources to help excite them about music of the past and the present. Having experienced this program in other schools, Quaver’s marvelous music Essentials provide the students with very “kid friendly” information, recordings, demonstrations and performances. 

What will be done with my students

Each of the thirty subjects that are covered in the collection of 14 minute DVDs, and their accompanying resources would be used at just the right grade level. Through the course of the year these short videos would act as an introduction to small units of study or an explanation of vocabulary and musical skills.
Kindergarten and 1st grade would focus on Beat, Tempo, Pitch and Dynamics. Second and Third grades would focus on Meter, Duration, Rhythm, Writing Rhythms, and Form. Third grade would focus on the musical Alphabet, Lines & Spaces, Notes and Rests, The woodwind Family, The Brass Family, The Percussion Family and Vocals. Fourth and Fifth grades would focus on Guitars & Fretted Instruments, The Keyboard Family, , The Baroque Period, the Classical Period, The Romantic Period The Impressionist Period, Blues, Rock Reggae, and Country.
The resources include class quizzes for each episode and interactive “worksheets” that the class can do together.

 

Benefits to my students

I have watched the enthusiasm in the kids when they see these fun lessons. It is amazing how much they remember after such a short presentation. I can see the use of this resource energizing the students in their understanding of how music worked in the past and how they can use it in the future!  

Budget Narrative

"Packet" includes 30 teacher guides w/short videos, 300 music selection recordings, World Music , Bach's Brain,
Library/Search and a 2-year license to the Kid's Website.
