Original Grant Overview

Goal

Students will study and create a sculpture of the Sea Turtles that nest on SWFL beaches.

What will be done with my students

Students will view videos by Conservancy of SWFL and Turtle Time about the endangered Loggerhead and Green Turtles that come home each year to lay eggs on Naples beaches.
Students will write about these turtles. They will draw and sketch and paint Sea Turtles and the coral reef and nesting on beaches in 2D. Then students will create a 3D sculpture of a sea turtles in their environment, either in the water with a coral reef or coming ashore and laying eggs at edge of the Seagrams. Students will also learn about the nature art of the belated Kathy Spalding and Guy Harvey.

Benefits to my students

Students will scientifically study, Learn, and hopefully appreciate the beauty of an endangered species that is so important to Naples and the world. By appreciating them, students may dedicate themselves to helping this creature survive in our growing community. Students will also express through Art their own creativity in recreating this endangered and beautiful creature in its natural habitat.
