Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
Michael and Andrea Schroeder - $504.00
The goal of this project is to have all students at Naples High School view the sun safely with their own certified solar glasses during the Great American Eclipse on August 21, 2017.
Prior to eclipse day, students will be given detailed information regarding the solar eclipse.
Each classroom, on August 21, 2017 will report to a designated area in the green space at Naples
High School. Solar glasses will be given to each student so they can view the beginning of the partial solar eclipse. The eclipse starts at 1:25 PM and will last until 4:14 PM. The maximum coverage of the Sun by the New Moon in Naples will be 80%, which will occur around 2:55 PM.
Teachers will be prepared to answer student questions when viewing the eclipse. Students will be encouraged to view the eclipse live on their mobile devices in other locations throughout the United States.
Students will be able to view a rare natural celestial event. My hope is that the students will be excited about sharing this very memorable experience with others. My goal is to spark interest in science/astronomy.
The solar eclipse glasses will be in high demand since millions of people will be viewing the first total eclipse traveling through the U.S. since 1979. I have searched many sites and found the lowest price available: $0.29 per eclipse shade when purchasing 1600 glasses. These glasses will be sold out quickly. At a later date, closer to the eclipse, glasses will either not be available or available at a much higher rate.
