Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 301

There were a total of 301 students : 150 Fourth graders and 151 Fifth Graders

These students were introduced to different artists and art styles as they created works influenced by the artists. Student used shape and color during the creation of portraits based on what they learned about different artists and art periods. Students painted with acrylic, tempera, and watercolor paints. Each painting medium was applied to a different surface: bogus paper, watercolor paper or a canvas board.

There were multiple key outcomes of this project, one outcome was the increased understanding that students have about portraiture. Another outcome is the students’ being introduced to different artists and art periods and becoming familiar with portraiture form those periods. Another outcome was the opportunity for students to work with various painting media

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Students in grades 4 and 5 (approximately 240 students) will learn about various artists and art styles. Students will learn how artists use shape and color during the creation of portraits. What will be done with my students

Students will learn about the use of color and shape in the creation of portraiture. Students will acquire new knowledge about art periods: The Fauves and Cubism, as well as artists such as, but not limited to Peter Max, Modigliani, and Picasso. Students will create a minimum of three paintings based on new knowledge and inspired by the works of various artists and art styles. Students will work with acrylics and tempera paints to create their portraits. 

 

Benefits to my students

Students will acquire new knowledge about art elements, artists, and art movements. Students will apply this knowledge as they create their individual portraits. Each student will create three portraits inspired by arts and styles.  

 

Budget Narrative

The grant will fund the purchase of a 12 color set of pint bottles of acrylic paint and a 12 color set of tempera paints for the children to use in the creation of their portraits. The grant will allow the purchase of canvas panels and bogus paper for the children’s’ paintings. The paints, canvas panels and paper will be purchased from a school supply company.
