My goal is to improve my students’ ability to recognize, understand the meaning of, and spell content area words in a fun and engaging way. Computer based programs like this can be differentiated to meet the needs of learners at a variety of different academic levels. I believe this program can help bridge the gaps in phonics that are evident in many of my middle school students.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to improve my students’ ability to recognize, understand the meaning of, and spell content area words in a fun and engaging way. Computer based programs like this can be differentiated to meet the needs of learners at a variety of different academic levels. I believe this program can help bridge the gaps in phonics that are evident in many of my middle school students.

What will be done with my students

For my seventh grade students, this independent practice will take place during our daily 30 minute homeroom period. During this time, my students will be able to review, spell and learn the meaning of content related words through the use of computer based technology. Motivating middle school students can be challenging, but this program offers a large selection of academic games and activities that I truly believe my students will LOVE! This program even reads the words and explains very clearly what each student needs to do to avoid any chance of frustration. In addition, it will track their progress to show learning gains!

Benefits to my students

One of the areas students commonly struggle with is vocabulary development. This program will reinforce phonics, spelling, word recognition and vocabulary development which in turn will increase student's ability to ready more fluently. Once students are able to read more fluently, their comprehension should improve. I am hopeful this program will positively impact learning and help my students to show learning gains in their grade-level content areas (Language Arts, Civics, Science & Math).

Budget Narrative

I am asking for just one subscription that will cover my homeroom class of 25 students. The $52.95 will cover my entire class!
