Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 820

This project provides my students with first-hand knowledge of children around the world.  Our Stanleys this year, traveled to Belgium, and Romania as well as 16 US states.

My students have an opportunity to shared, with the class, what the hosting school sends to us, and they keep the souveniors.

We then put up a world map and display postcards from the places Stanley has traveled.  That gives the school an opportunity to see where (he) Stanley has been this year.

I have been doing this project for 17 years at Sea Gate and am so grateful for the continued funding each year.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Provide the students in my class with an opportunity to learn about communities in our 50 states as well as the world.

My goal this year is for EVERY child in my class to send their Flat Stanley off on an adventure.

What will be done with my students

Students will create a scrapbook about our community in Naples and our state of Florida. The grant will provide the funding for supplies and postage needed to send our scrapbook, a postcard, and a small souvenir to our host school. My students will then be able to host a Flat Stanley from another school and will create a journal documenting their stay in Naples.

Benefits to my students

A school-wide bulletin board of a world map will be created to document where the Stanley's have gone and the postcards they have received.
My class will learn about the continents, countries of the world, and communities in our 50 states.

My students will also learn new things about our community of Naples.

Over the years at SGE my classes, we have met Paul Pacter, a world traveler who comes into our classroom each year and teaches us, through his pictures, about his adventures to other countries.

Again, this year we also plan to skype with a school in Belgium. Last year we learned French, and the students in Belgium learned sign language. What a great experience!

Budget Narrative

I have been doing this valuable project for the past 16 years, and hope to continue this for another year.
