Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 150

We have only had the kindles for a matter of days, but students are already getting excited about learning!  With the kindles, I allow for students to work in groups to use programs like Kahoot! and Quizziz.  I also use the Aurasma app (an augmented reality app) that allows for kids to scan posters and other items in my classroom then have an augmented reality video or an extrenal website pop up through the app.  They got so exctied the first time they looked at my arithmetic series poster through the kindle app and all of a sudden there was a video of me explaining the poster in simpler terms. Another group activity that the kindles have made possible is QR cubes, where groups roll a cube, and each face has a different QR code that takes them to a website or a teacher-created google document with practice questions.  The students work together to complete the questions and then turn them in at the end of the class period.

The kindles have also helped those students who do not have their own wireless device, so they always had to buddy up with other students. Now students can work individally in other programs (ALEKS or USA Test Prep), without having to be embarrassed that they do not have their own phone or tablet.  The students know that they can check it out from me for the class period.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

To integrate the use of technology into the traditional math classroom.

What will be done with my students

Students will be able to use the tablets to complete assignments through QR codes, as well as compete with classmates on websites like Kahoot! or Quizidd. They can also work together in groups for brainstorming ideas through Padlet, a website that works as a virtual sticky note.

Benefits to my students

Through the use of technology, I can differentiate my instruction, as well as allow students to work collaboratively and share their ideas. It allows for a more student centered classroom, and an environment that relates more to the students and their lives outside of the classroom.

Budget Narrative

Each tablet costs $49.99 on Amazon.com. Each tablet would also need a case ($13.99) and a two year protection plan ($17.99). Total taxes and fees are estimated at $28.56
