Goal

Students will be enriched with a live theatrical performance of the events depicted in the Utopian Societal book, "The Giver".

What will be done with my students

Students will analyze the extent to which a live production of the novel stays faithful or departs from the text. Students will compare and contrast the societal model of a Utopian Society. Teachers will be given Study Guides as a resource to integrate the performance with classroom curriculum.

Benefits to my students

Through dialogue and character interaction, students will become aware of the conflict Jonas faces with the societal restrictions established in this regulated society. This is a cross-curriculum activity as it encompasses Language Arts, Social Studies, and Related Arts

Budget Narrative

The Florida Repertory Theatre Troupe will travel to our school and perform on stage for the entire 8th Grade body of students.
