Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 13

I have loved using Time for Kids in my classroom this year. It provided my students with a fun and engaging way to learn about the world around them. All of my students are learning impaired and most have language delays. using Time for Kids has helped me to incorporate important language and vocabulary skills, increase their reading comprehension as well as teach important critical thinking skills into my lessons. The children loved reading about kids their age who are doing some amazing things around the world. This often led to some very interesting classroom discussions and even debates about a topic. Time for kids was an easy way for me as a teacher to help my students understand the importance of people, events and issues that they may have seen on the news. It encouraged them to pay more attention the world around them. I am very grateful for this grant.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to enhance our Unique modified curriculum by helping my special needs students better understand the world around them. I would like to purchase a one year subscription to TIME for kids. This news magazine offers engaging articles, colorful maps, and vivid graphics that can motivate my students to read as well as learn about the world around them. Also included in this subscription is a digital resource that can be used on our interactive whiteboard or as well as our student computers.

What will be done with my students

Using the weekly magazine as well as the digital resources included with the subscription, my students will have access to a wide range of current real world topics. Through classroom discussions as well as teacher led instruction I plan to use TIME for kids daily to help build my students reading and writing skills. The magazine can also be easily integrated across our curriculum to provide support for our social studies, science and math units.

Benefits to my students

The benefits to including TIME for kids into my curriculum include, the availability of age appropriate printable classroom resources, access to online teaching tools as well as providing an additional resource to go along with our curriculum. With this subscription I hope to be able to provide my students with a fun and engaging way to better understand the world around them. This subscription would also be shared with the two other intermediate modified curriculum classroom teachers at my school.

Budget Narrative

In addition to the weekly classroom magazine the subscription also includes a classroom app that can be used on student computers as well as classroom I-pads, student assessments, interactive whiteboard activities, printable classroom resources, access to online teaching tools, a teacher’s guide as well as classroom extras such as graphic organizers and learning posters.
