Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 500

Thank you so much for your donation! This project is something that will impact the lives of every student that walks into the media center for several years to come!

The Lego wall gives students an opportunity to make and create, and many students may not have that opportunity anywhere else in their life. It gives them a chance to discover any engineering and architectural potential they might have, simply by connecting the blocks and using their imagination. Plus, they get to have fun while doing it, which makes learning much more enjoyable for students.

It also gives students a chance to reinforce their math skills in a fun and different way. They can choose to complete the optional challenges that are posted in the signs next to the Lego wall. There will be one challenge posted per grade level, which provides an opportunity for students to challenge themselves to use higher level math skills, and also allows them to review skills they learned in previous years.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

I would like to give students at Village Oaks Elementary the opportunity to express themselves while developing new skills through various STEAM activities. Building a Lego wall that students could use would help to develop their engineering and architectural skills as well as spark their creativity.

What will be done with my students

I would like build a Lego wall in the media center, where students would have access all day long. I see the majority of students at least once a week in the media center, and would love to give them an additional opportunity to expand their creativity through the use of this Lego wall. Various ideas that students can use to get started will be placed around the wall. These ideas will be written and designed for each grade level, so every student in the school will get an opportunity to develop their engineering, math, and architectural skills.

Benefits to my students

By providing these items, I can help students unlock the engineering and architectural potential they may not even know they have. These students work so hard just to get chances that many of us take for granted. I want to give these students every possible advantage I can allow them to have a brighter future, and this Lego wall will be instrumental in that journey.

Budget Narrative

The items listed above include sets of baseplates to create the Lego wall, a container to house the Legos and the files for activity ideas, a starter set of Legos, and adhesive displays for activity ideas. Each of these items is vital in building the Lego wall and housing whats needed for the project.
