This microphone, in conjunction with the noise management programs, benefitted the students, as well as the teacher. As the noise level in a classroom increases beyond an acceptable level, the noise level meter dynamically indicates the level of noise, and the background graphics within the app change to reflect the noise levels. This allowed the students to have a visual, as well as an auditory tool, to help themselves gain the responsibility of being able to monitor their own noise level. The students were able to focus better as the appropriate noise level is occurring for them to do so, work got done in a timely fashion, and I was able to stay to the task at hand with less interruptions for having to stop and redirect noise level.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal for this grant request is to help students monitor their volume for the classroom, so that it is at appropriate noise levels for the different activities.

What will be done with my students

There are many programs to control classroom noise levels, and they are able to be used with a simple microphone for the computer. These programs are then able to be viewed on the classroom front board. The programs can be controlled by adjustable settings, so that the noise level can be appropriate for each activity. Through the use of visuals and sounds, students can know in real-time if their level of auditory activity is appropriate for the activity they are engaged in, or if they are being a little too loud for the situation. The visual and sound of the programs will alert the students ahead of time of the progression of their noisiness, and hopefully will prevent it from going any further and involving the teacher. This all can be done with the purchase of this computer microphone.
