Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 75

The new technology that we were able to get with the Champions for Learning grant have gone a long way toward allowing our kids to be more independent learners. In a classroom environment like the one we are building, kids make many of their own learning decisions. Kids are now able to work at their own pace, independently, in small groups, and even in or out of the classroom. We know that technology frees us up to accomplish great things.

It is a beautiful sight in class when kids are working on their own projects at their own pace. These kids must plan out their learning, gather resources that they will need, and demonstrate their learning in the way they deem most fitting. We problem-solve, create, and innovate. Later this semester, kids will be participating in our Genius Hour program. During our Genius Hour time, kids will have the opportunity to create personal learning projects. Genius Hour is something that is sweeping the nation and our kids will be right at the cutting edge.

All of us appreciate the support that the Champions for Learning organization has given us. You are making a world of difference for our classroom and our kids. Thank you!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Students will use 21st Century technology to enrich and sharpen their literacy development.

What will be done with my students

Students will use computers, tablets and other devices to master 21st Century technology skills while increasing their literacy skills. Students will participate in an online learning environment, create multimedia projects, collaborate to conduct research and peer reviews, create content, and research and publish their work. Digital literacy is an essential skill for students to develop and this environment will help students with that learning.

Benefits to my students

Students will become adept at various modes of discourse including classroom interpersonal communication in addition to an online environment. Using the online environment as a vehicle to improve and deepen critical thinking allows the students to develop skills that will be more essential in their college/career development.
