Impact to My Classroom

Mutliplication white boards were purchased and used with all 4th graders. The white boards had the basic facts from 0-12 on them and students had to go through and find the product for each. Multiplication is a premise for many of the 4th grade math standards so it is highly beneficial to them to be fluent in their basic facts. Having these white boards gave them the opportunity to practice before school, during math centers, and anytime they finished work early. Thank you for supporting us in helping our mathematicians grow!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

My goal is to help all fourth grade students become fluent with their multiplication facts. Students are supposed to have all facts memorized by the end of third grade in order to be prepared for 4th grade standards and curriculum. Every year a majority of our students come to 4th grade without having this skill mastered, and basic multiplication is the preface for many of the learning goals such as 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication and division.

What will be done with my students

Students will use the boards to practice their multiplication facts in their classroom. They are dry erase boards so they can be wiped down and used over and over many times. One side of the board has the equations listed with a solution and the other side has the equation listed with the solution missing. This gives students a chance to study (solely or in pairs) and then test themselves by flipping the board over.

Benefits to my students

Students will have a chance to master the foundational knowledge needed to achieve student achievement in fourth grade. This will help to alleviate frustration and help all students feel successful with the content.
