Harlan & Heather Dam - $169.00
The goal of the "Phonemic Fun” is to be able to provide learning centers that reinforce the phonemic awareness standard that is taught in Kindergarten.
{Florida Language Arts Standard: Phonological Awareness LAFS.K.RF.2.2 Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes). a. Recognize and produce rhyming words. b. Count, pronounce, blend, and segment syllables in spoken words. c. Blend and segment onsets and rimes of single-syllable spoken words. d. Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds in three-phoneme words}.
These activities are designed to include independent practice as well as small group activities that encourage learners to apply skills that are explicitly taught throughout the school year. These ready-to-use centers have everything my students will need to build phonemic awareness. Each center is designed so that up to 4 students can work at once. It has a double-sided instruction charts that gives everyone easy access to the activities with simple picture instructions that are a cinch for students to follow on their own.
Phonemic awareness is the ability to hear, identify and manipulate the sounds of a language. Quality instruction is essential for all Kindergartners. Research shows that children who cannot distinguish and manipulate the sounds within spoken words have difficulty recognizing and learning the necessary print/sound relationship that is critical to developing proficient reading and spelling success. Phonemic awareness is the primary predictor of early reading and spelling skills in Kindergarten through 2nd grade (Gagen, M., 2006). These oral activities will allow my students to be able to focus on simple tasks such as rhyming, matching words with beginning and ending sounds, and blending sounds into words.
