Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 19

My students had a wonderful time particapting the 7 Habits of Happy Kids Grant project. We took the time to read and discuss the read a loud book, spot light students practicing the habit, and shared the habits with our families.

The grant heklped my students build a family unit with a foundation of freidnship, kindness, and goal setting. They were able to problem solve through difficult social issues and encourage each other during tough situtations.

I believe that the read aloud books, activities, and posters were the extra matipulative that my students needed to understand how to be "Happy Kids."

I will continue to teach my future students with the 7 Habits and continue to build a classroom on the foundations the habits provide. I hope the students will take what they have learned and continue the strategies and lessons through their academic lives and carry them into adulthood.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

To build a learning environment that is safe, engaging, accepting, and encouraging.

What will be done with my students

I will introduce the student to Sean Covey's philosophy, The 7 Habits of Happy Children. We will focus on one habit a week, for 7 weeks. The habits include: be proactive, begin with the end in mind, put first things first, think win-win, seek first to understand- then to be understood, synergize, and sharpen the saw. We will practice the habits in our daily activities, in school and at home. I will introduce and engage the student in the 7 habits with read aloud books, role playing, and projects. The students will use their knowledge from the 7 habits to build a classroom community that promotes higher order thinking, good choices, and collaboration! The students will be able teach and reflect with the use of technology (iMovies, FlipGrid). The philosophy of the habits will become the philosophy of our classroom.

Benefits to my students

The students will use their knowledge and power from the 7 habits to develop a classroom that thrives on being proactive, responsible, positive, understanding and committed to learning. The students will build a classroom community that will focus on learning while developing into leaders and a team!
