Impact to My Classroom

Technology is used widely in schools today. Because of this use, headphones are also always used with the technology. Due to constant use, many headphones cease to work due to either breaking of the wire and/or headphone itself, or some other malfunction. Five third grade classes were able to receive a class set of 6 headphones with this grant, which means each of the computers in the room was able to have a pair of headphones. This enables the teachers to have headphones for the students to use, while the school issued headphones are being replaced.

Goal

The goal for this project is for five 3rd-grade classrooms to be able to have access to headphones for use for the classroom computers, when the school provided headphones are in the process of a work order due to needing a repair.

What will be done with my students

Every day, students use the six computers in each classroom. They use it for multiple subjects such as in reading they use it for the program iReady; in math they use it for the program FAST Math; and in any subject they are able to access videos through the district program Discovery Science. The students use the headphones in order to hear these programs, and to block out the distraction of the classroom noise. The headphones also block out the computer noise from the rest of the students.

Benefits to my students

Classrooms are provided with headphones for the computers through the school, however, throughout the year many of these headphones need to be repaired. Sometimes there are extra headphones immediately available, but many times there are not. This grant will benefit five 3rd-grade teachers and a range of 90-100 students as the students will be able to use these headphones while the classroom headphones are being repaired. These headphones will benefit the students using the computers as they are now able to hear their task, and not classroom noise. This will also benefit the teacher and the students not on the computer as they will not be distracted by the sound from the programs on the computer.

Budget Narrative

I am requesting funds to pay for 30 headphones to be split between 5 teachers. These headphones are $7.00 each for a total of $210.00. There will be no cost for shipping as I will use my Amazon Prime account.
