Goal – To enable all students to have the opportunity to work in class with working computers. All of our secondhand computers in the classroom have been donated approximately five years ago. Almost all are missing keys, do not charge or do not connect to the internet. Many students do not have their own personal computers or access to Wi-Fi at home. We spend lots of class time and energy trying to revive our computers every day.

Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 200

There are SO many impacts to my classroom. All of our Seniors in my Economics classes finished their nine week segment course for  Everfi Financial Literacy. They researched colleges, technical schools, the military and different careers. They completed a final "Life" project in which they had to build two different career and budget scenarios based on actual posted jobs, housing, car purchases, and full real full life budgets.  Cost of living and taxes were a real shock to them!

My Cambridge AICE Global Perspectives classes completed both their 2000 word research papers and their eight minute transcripts for their team presentations on a variety of Global Issues. They had tons of research, citations and formatting for formal research papers that hopefully will help them get their AICE diplomas and definitely opened their minds up to the world.

My mentoring students took strength and weakness and career interest surveys and also did SAT and ACT practice and did college research.

My Key Club officers use the chromebooks for Google Docs, slides and sheets to plan meetings and to coordinate volunteer events for 70 members.

Overall, we are ecstatic to have 10 reliable Chromebooks in the classroom.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Goal – To enable all students to have the opportunity to work in class with working computers. All of our secondhand computers in the classroom have been donated approximately five years ago. Almost all are missing keys, do not charge or do not connect to the internet. Many students do not have their own personal computers or access to Wi-Fi at home. We spend lots of class time and energy trying to revive our computers every day.

What will be done with my students

In my Government/ Economics courses students will complete Everfi Personal Finance and Entrepreneurship Certification courses, conduct career interest research, college research and search for scholarships.
In my Cambridge University’s pre-collegiate(IGCSE) and collegiate (AICE) Global Perspectives courses, students will research global issues using credible sources, learn to cite sources, compose balanced arguments using credible research, write formal research papers and prepare for live eight minute presentations to be videoed and submitted for potential college credit and AICE diplomas.
All students will have classroom access to Google Classroom and tools.

Benefits to my students

All students will be able to work in class with teacher supervision/ consultation with immediate feedback. Personal finance and career research are very difficult for students. They have lots of questions and need teacher guidance. In the research classes will be also be able to work collaboratively in Google Docs and Slides, conduct peer edits and reviews while in class.

Budget Narrative

Since we are completely housed in portable classrooms in an open campus, we are exposed and vulnerable to outsiders and hurricane damage. Technology is mostly dependent upon outside donations for our school other than classroom essentials. Our capital priority is trying to fund campus repairs first and then a permanent building for student and staff safety and weather protection. We use Google Classroom with cloud storage, so laptop memory storage is not crucial. Chrome books will work sufficiently and are approximately $200 per item. We can get at least 10 Chromebooks with this donation depending on prices.
