Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 19

Dash has become part of our classroom! Students enjoying using their critical thinking skills to program Dash to complete different tasks from using the launcher to creating music with the xylophone! Students have enjoyed connecting their reading and math assignments with Dash throughout the school year to enhance our curriculum. A reading activity we worked on involved reading a piece of literature and then creating a scene of the book for others to view using our robots. During an extension for math students worked to show Dash solving math equations using a number chart, students were able to work the problems out and show another way of solving the equations. We also researched and designed Macy’s Thanksgiving Day balloons and programed Dash to carry our balloons down the parade route in November! Each student had a chance to star in the parade and MC and program Dash to make it down the parade route for all of America to see. Dash has connected students that at times are shy to work with others. I see the skills they are picking up by using Dash helpful in the years to come. Coding is an important skill of our technology enhanced world.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal of this project is for students to have hands on interaction with tools that will allow for them to learn how to code. Through learning to code they will continue to enhance their 21st Century skills.

What will be done with my students

Students will learn the fundamentals of coding while collaborating with their classmates to complete challenges with Dash Robot. These challenges will allow for students to work with programing and understanding computer science while incorporating scientific thinking, mathematical reasoning, creative storytelling, design thinking, and spatial awareness.

Benefits to my students

Students will build their critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration skills. These skills are necessary for our 21st century learners to prepare them for the jobs of the future.
