Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 130

With a subscription to Flocabulary and BrainPop, students are able to actively engage in a lesson or topic before the subject is taught. For example, before learning about Patriot's Day, students were able to watch a grade-level appropriate video that taught the background knowledge necessary to engage in the lesson. Students find the silly comments and catchy lyrics of both sites appealing and often ask to play the videos again to learn the words. The entire grade level uses one log in, so all students are affected and able to participate. The use of BrainPop and Flocabulary has helped to increase engagement in a subject area as well as get students interested in a topic they may not have heard about prior to a lesson.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

To utilize the yearly subscriptions of BrainPOP and Flocabulary to engage students in specific academic topics.

What will be done with my students

BrainPOP and Flocabulary are often used throughout our Reading, Science, and Social Studies curriculum to engage students in learning. A video can be shown to get the students interested in the topic, and activities are often provided through the sites to provide follow-up questions or quizzes.

Benefits to my students

These videos help to get students excited about what they are studying. Students connect with the humor or music of the videos and have questions about what they will be learning. Flocabulary and BrainPOP help to introduce topics to students so as to peak interest and increase engagement.

Budget Narrative

The funding will be used to purchase a year-long subscription for both BrainPOP and Flocabulary.
