The fifth grade students at Avalon Elementary have truly enjoyed all of the Flocabulary language arts videos and songs! All three of my classes were able to have more fun learning about grammar, ELA learning standards, test taking tips, etc., because of the generous donation and our subscription to the Flocabulary website!! My classes were able to sing along with the printable lyrics and also participate in various learning activities due to the content in the videos. Not only did my students benefit from the donation this school year (2018-2019), but new classes beginning in the 2019-2020 school year will also have the opportunity to enjoy the site for several months before the subscription expires!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

I would love to have a one year online subscription for Flocabulary, which is a standards-aligned website that provides academic vocabulary and videos with catchy hip-hop songs. Flocabulary is a wonderful way to review concepts taught in class while motivating the students with sound & music.

What will be done with my students

Flocabulary offers an array of short videos and songs that include inference skills, main idea, figurative language, theme, etc. As a way to reinforce learning, the students enjoy singing along with the videos/songs while fully grasping an academic concept. The academic videos can be played at the start of a new standard to be taught (to excite and motivate the students), or at the end of a unit as a review.

Benefits to my students

Students learn academic vocabulary, learn skills, and can sing along while watching the fun videos as they retain information. The videos/songs are a great way to maintain the learning momentum in the classroom while keeping the students engaged!

Budget Narrative

An online subscription to the Flocabulary site would help my students learn while having fun. The academic vocabulary, short videos, and catchy songs make learning enjoyable and engaging.
