I aim to use the Powering Up for Success grant to infuse the latest technology into the student inquiry process, to allow students to gather, locate, organize and evaluate information, create work that represents their learning and analyze personal data related to their learning. This will allow me to assist in building skills for my at-risk high school learners and support meaningful student engagement with our Sunshine State Standards. The goals are as follows:
1. To give my at-risk and special needs students an opportunity to track their grades on a regular basis so their grade point average (GPA) and graduation status is where it need to be; 2. To develop new ways for at-risk students to locate and organize information for their learning; 3. To provide a means to support student understanding of course content; 4. To give students an avenue to use technology to enhance their learning; 5. To develop a motivating way for students to create authentic learning projects for their academic and technical programs.

Goal

I aim to use the Powering Up for Success grant to infuse the latest technology into the student inquiry process, to allow students to gather, locate, organize and evaluate information, create work that represents their learning and analyze personal data related to their learning. What will be done with my students

These at-risk and ESE students have IEP's, 504 Plans and Student Success Plans so they can track data and grades related to their learning in both academic and technical area classes. This is done so they remain on track with personal grade point averages (GPA) and know the successful path that will lead to them walking across the graduation stage as 12th graders.

The laptops will be used on a daily basis when students check FOCUS GradeBook to monitor assignments, projects, tests and quizzes either in my office or in the Learning Support Center during breaks, lunch, After School Homework Club and during Academic Saturday School. Most of their assignments are either computer based or they turn in assignments to instructors by utilizing ANGEL or Drop Box. The laptops will also be used to complete both academic and technical area coursework, projects and other assignments so they remain on track for graduation purposes and are allowed to be completers in their technical programs.

Benefits to my students

The at-risk and ESE students will benefit from the use of these laptops to track their personal data on an on-going basis.

76% of these students receive free and reduced lunch. A large number of students don't have regular access to online technology. By fulfilling the goal
of supplying 5 laptops students will be able to experience instant feedback of data, as well as opportunities to make connections to their personal learning goals. Due to the portability of the laptops students will be able to collect valid, reliable data in each of their classes, and then use this data to make instant connections between performance objectives in all of their classes. It is imperative that each student has access to this technology to examine their own data and set individual learning goals for themselves.
