Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 15

This grant made a huge impact to my classroom and the students I presently have, as well as any students I get in the future! The materials bought are a great extension to the curriculum I currently have. They have also assisted in helping my students meet their individual education plan goals. These materials break down different skills that we cover in class at a greater depth providing my students with additional practice. Some of the books focus on hygiene, excersie, vocations, menu math, budgeting, checkbooks, filling out forms and the list goes on. My students really enjoy the money math because it has a worksheet and it is based off of a menu that comes with the workbook. The menu is made to look like a real life menu which makes the experience of working with it more realistic to everyday life. After practicing these skills in the classroom with these materials we then go out into the public to put the skills taught and worked on to use in a real world application. Each year more future students will also be able to enjoy and learn from all of these wonderful materials. Thank you again for supporting my classroom!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

To teach my students to survive the game of life!! The materials will provide a springboard of instruction for life in the community with as much independence as each individual is capable of!

What will be done with my students

- Students will practice a variety of skills handling money: using a menu, shopping using a flyer, following recipes, monthly living costs, managing accounts, and budgeting.
- Students will practice personal safety skills learning warning labels, community signs, safety in the home, and public transportation.
-Students will apply basic reading comprehension to independent living, applications, medical forms, informational text, and leisure activities.

Benefits to my students

These materials will be used alongside real life situations and tasks to enhance their learning. By mastering the simplified supported materials, they will be prepared to generalize the skills and learn to make their own accommodations that will help them navigate throughout their adult life and transition to life after school.

Budget Narrative

The entire sum is being used to order items from the Remedia catalog. This publisher is the only one that makes these specific, high quality materials that are adapted to my students special needs. The materials are NOT consumable which makes this purchase and the benefits continue year after year with each new student that enters the transition program.
