Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 400

Fourth and fifth grade students are engaging in a summer project to create a blueprint and 3-D design of their dream house! Students will be reviewing ruler skills, area, perimeter, and polygons. Geometry is a consistent area of concern for our students. We are so excited that the students are going to get extra practice over the summer so they do not forget all that they have learned. We were able to extend the funds to provide every student with a poster board, ruler, and some colored pencils so they can effectively engage in the project. Thank you so much for all of your support!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Students in grades 3-5 will be offered the opportunity to engage in an at home STEAM project that involves building their very own dream house!

What will be done with my students

Students will be asked to be architects and engineers to build their very own dream house! They will design a sketch that includes rooms of various shapes and sizes, and have to find the area of each room so they can put flooring down. They will have a few options for types of flooring and have to figuring out the cost to put their chosen floor through the house. Students will then build a 3-D model of their dream house and bring it to school to be displayed.

Benefits to my students

Students will be reinforcing their understanding of geometry as they puzzle through incorporating specified shapes into their dream house. They will work on their understanding of how to find area, and of multiplication as they find flooring prices. Students get to engineer using any recyclable materials of their choosing and will be provided poster board for their blueprint. Their imagination starts and stops with them in this project!

Budget Narrative

Posters will be given to students to create a blue print of their dream house.
