Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 135

As a result of having the flashdrives, the Cambridge students were able engage with the curriculum and extend their learing by utilizing the flashdrives in each of their core classes and conduct higher learning research projects, papers, and presentations. Students consistently were able to better engage with their work by having the ability to begin their research and work in class, and have access to the opportunity, because of the flashdrives, to build on their learning outside of the classroom. In my own class, students utilized their projects to conduct their semester-long advocay projects where they researched a cause they were passionate about and advocated on behalf of that cause to their peers and community members. Students had to conduct extensive research and present their findings to their classmates at the end of the first semester. This project is one example of how the flashdrives made it easier for students to conduct their research and work, both inside and outside of the classroom.

Additionally, throughout the year, we are constantly encouraging and supporting students in applying for scholarship opportunities. The flashdrives made it easier for students to work on their scholarship essays, at school and at home. Additionally, the flashdrives made it easier for the teachers to review and work with students as they work through the scholarship process. We are fortunate to have several students who have won essay contests at our school over the course of the year, and most of those students were recipients of the flashdrives from this grant for the Cambridge program.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

Cambridge is structured as a college seminar course in which students are engaging in rigorous content and applying those skills to real world opportunities. By providing students with flash drives, it is our goal students will be better able to facilitate their own learning and develop the skills they will need in high school, college and within the real world in taking responsibility for their studies and work.

What will be done with my students

Students will be able work on their research projects and papers inside and outside of school. With this additional means of engagement with content and skills, students will be able to work with more rigorous content that will further their learning and academic success. By providing students with flash drives, students will have the opportunity to further develop their ownership of their learning and education. In class, students will be given time to work on research projects and group assignments, but will be able to further and continue their work outside of school by having the ability to transfer their work to and from school with the flash drives.

Benefits to my students

By providing students with flash drives, students will have increased opportunities for real world application of their skills outside of the classroom. This will further bridge the gap between content learned within the classroom to learning outside of the classroom and, in turn, facilitate an environment of lifelong learning.

Budget Narrative

There are 135 Cambridge students total (about 45 per grade level) which would mean we would need 14 packs of 10. The additional 5 would be in place for students who potentially transfer into Cambridge.
