Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 350

We were so grateful to have received this grant just in time for begin FSA Prep! All 6th grade teachers were given 6 copies of the Ready LAFS book to use with their students! This allowed student to practice test-taking strategies, skills and processes to ensure that they were FSA Ready. Ready LAFS often mimics the type of questions students will see on the FSA, therefore students canb use their knowledge of different standards to practice different skills. All the students benefitted greatly from using these books and we are so happy they had the opportunity to use this book.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal is for 6th grade students to become proficient in grade level standards using a variety of methods, questioning, and passages that reflect that of what they see on the English/Language Arts Florida State Assessment.

What will be done with my students

All students in 6th grade will utilize this program to practice and master grade level standards. The program provides guided practice, independent practice, and assessments that will allow students to become experts on each standard. The Ready Florida English Language Arts program uses a proven effective model that ensures student growth, and mastery needed on the new LAFS standards. This program builds comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, etc. and allows students to practice "proving" their answers within text. This program also mimics question styles and text that students will see on their end of year assessment. In small group instruction, students will be assessed on standards and specific skill and "show what they know." This will allow teachers to target specific areas of strength or needs for improvement in particular subskills/standards.

Benefits to my students

The benefit of this program is to provide rigorous instruction on the Language Arts Standards to help prepare students for the end of year state assessment. Students will also build strong reading comprehension skills with the right balance of informational and literary text.
