Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 65

This grant allowed my orchestra students to have a music stand at home, making it easier for them to feel comfortable to the same conditions they use when playing their instrument in the classroom.  The levels of practice have greatly increase and the frequency of instruments going home to practice has increased by 100%. This in turn has put in front of me the best beginning level orchestra that I have ever taught in my 9 years. I have a small group of students that take their instrument home everyday to practice at home and many others that take their instrument home several days a week to achieve their practice goals and classroom goals. There are also students that are logging multiples hours of practice per week even if they take their instrument home only on the weekends. The culture of practicing has changed and students are taking on the responsibility of their learning to themselves and take it out of the classroom.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal for this grant is to purchase 65 collapsible music stands for the Immokalee Middle School orchestra program.

What will be done with my students

The students will have the option to check-out the music stands as they do with the instruments, and take them home so that they can use to practice their instrument.

Benefits to my students

Studies have shown that the more a student practices or trains, the more proficient they become at that particular skill. Practice at home usually involves a student bending over a bed or a table that can lead to pain, discomfort and discouragement to practice. With a music stand at home, the student’s will be able to see their music at the proper angle which will provide them with better posture, the home practice will be facilitated.

Budget Narrative

I have contacted Cadence Music in Ft. Myers, who is an approved vendor to CCPS. I have a quote for 65 foldable music stands with carrying bag at $9.95 each for a total of $646.75.
