Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 16

We just received our three iPads from my grant, Tech Time in the Classroom.  We haven't had a lot of time to use them since it is the end of the school year, but so far, we have used them to work with our Ozobots.  Ozobots are small robots that the second grade students in Collier County are using to learn about computer coding.  They have to create paths that include color codes that the robots (Ozobots) follow.  They use Ozobots in many areas of the curricultum.  They can use them to retell stories, solve math facts, problem solve, along with many other uses.

Another use for the iPads is to utilize QR coded activities.  We have a literacy QR code activity where the students are given a literacy element to identify, then scan the code to check their answer.  THere are QR code activities for every subject and I can even customize QR codes to create classroom specific activities.  Students can practice math facts, learn geometry, social studies, science, and even writing skills can be done using the QR codes.

We have also started using FlipGrid at our school so the students can create videos to answer whole class questions and complete lessons.  We will use the iPads for small group instruction as well as center time activities.  Each year, our second graders do an animal research project and the iPads will be an invaluable tool for this research.

Thank you so very much for providing me with this opportunity to integrate more techology into the classroom.  It will be a tremendous help to have my own class set of iPads to help my students achieve success.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

I would like to increase the use of technology in my classroom through the use of iPads. In second grade we use Ozobots for coding instruction. In order to fully utilize the online Ozobot resources, we need full size iPads to allow the Ozobots to move on the screens.

What will be done with my students

The students will work in small groups to code and operate the Ozobots. The students will also be able to document their progress utilizing the iPads to photograph or video their work. The students will also be able to utilize flipgrid and QR codes to document their work or locate other resources for coding.

Benefits to my students

The use of the iPads will engage the students in the lessons and will strengthen their skills with technology in a productive, instructional manner. Having access to the iPads in the classroom on a regular basis will allow the students to have better access to the technology so they can work on more extensive projects. They will learn coding skills as well as progress monitoring skills. They will learn how to collect and share data and keep track of their own progress.

Budget Narrative

CCPS price for iPads is $299. I have included $50/ iPad for airwatch and $50/iPad for an otterbox cover which I believe the schools require also.
