Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 300

The outcome of this project was simply amazing! Kinder students creating little robots, getting exciting about coding and really having fun doing it. Teaching little ones simple STEM activities was so COOL! Using Osmo coding and Cubelets opened a whole new world of learning for them. They learned how to work together and think critically and to manipulate coding blocks to problem solve. They looked at it as playing but so much learning was taking place!

It was so incredible that I decided to extend it to my first graders as well and they exceeded my expectations!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal of Kinder Bots is to introduce my kinder students to STEM activities and engineering through the use of Cubelet Robots and Osmo Coding. My goal is to provide STEM activities to equip our students to compete in the global society with the tools necessary to prepare them for the 21st Century starting with our youngest learners.

What will be done with my students

I plan to integrate STEM Cubelet Robots and Osmo Coding into the technology kinder curriculum. A
Cubelets are small robots that looks just like a little cubes that students will put together to build simple robots. It takes very simple commands. Forward, back,
turn right and turn left. That's it. Simple. But oh the possibilities are endless and easy to operate is the perfect tool for also teaching sequencing, estimation, problem-solving. Osmo coding will take the students to a whole new level of coding. This modular and durable coding blocks are designed to give my kindergarteners the best possible introduction to the world of coding by also integrating the power of physical play with the digital
advantages of real-time feedback. Playing beyond the screen invites students to collaborate on tables or
floors while manipulating tangible game pieces such as number tiles, letter tiles, and coding blocks.

Benefits to my students

Increased motivation
Hands on learning
STEM learning
Active engagement
Fun
Relevant interactive lessons

Budget Narrative

This grant is for a technology lab for 160 students. The project includes cubelette robots, Osmo coding programs, and iPads to run the programs for
kindergarteners. These STEM materials will be incorporated as students learn to code and program. All
these materials will be sustained through the years as they will be an integral part of the new
kindergarten curriculum.
