Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 0

The key impact of this project has been to empower students to help others in so many ways! They welcomed new students to our school through our joint We Dine Together/student Ambassador program. This entailed the We Dine Together/Ambassador students  going over school schedules with new students, escorting them to classes to meet their new teachers, assisting them with lockers, and eating lunch with them.  Most importantly, the grant allowed us to have new student luncheons where we introduced new students to our group and a fantastic holiday party for all our new students (over 50 invited)!!

This impacts everyone , all staff, as the students spread kindness and hospitality throughout the day. This affects the overall school atmosphere. In addition, these students are called up to assist a student who may not be new to the school, but may be experiencing some social problems or difficulty in meeting others at lunch.

What a huge impact these Student Ambassadors have made to Oakridge Middle School ! Thank you so much for hte generous grant!

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal is to assist the School We Dine Together /School Ambassador group in providing snacks or lunches for their meetings, gifts for the Newcomers, and funding for the We Dine Together shirts for the group.

What will be done with my students

The students wish to welcome new students to our school by providing some welcome gifts. Some ideas presented are OMS t shirts and OMS labelled school supplies.
The group is a combined group of 6-8 grade students who are the Student ambassadors for the school. They welcome new students, show them around the school, help them find their classes, eat lunch with them, get lockers, etc. Also, they are the We Dine Together group in which they approach students who are alone in the lunch room, courtyard, or at recess and make them feel welcome by offering a helping hand.

Benefits to my students

The benefit for the student Ambassadors is that they feel empowered in this student run group by introducing themselves to others who they don't know and who may be different from them. This fosters a much needed life skill!
The benefit for the newcomers is profound. As part of the overall social emotional learning effort, they will feel welcome and therefore will adjust to the school environment with ease. Also, the students who are sitting alone will make a friend or feel that someone cares about them here at school.

Budget Narrative

This group will be for the entire school year. It is an effort to promote comradery, acceptance, and kindness at school which is so needed in today's world. The students have great ideas! We appreciate your assistance in helping us carry out our mission.
