Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 200

This book set rejuvenated lessons that need to be taught but are sometimes boring!

These books integrated skills taught in the media center.  The music that went along with the title instantly caught the student's attention and made them want to hear more!  They even asked if we could do a lesson like it again!

I was unable to use two of the titles this year becasue the lessons had already been taught by the time the grant was awraded and the books arrived.  I am really looking forward to using the complete set next year.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

To integrate STEAM into the media center by introducing students to library skills using text with accompanying music.

What will be done with my students

Students will receive lessons in the media center on the following topics:

Library Manners
How to find a book in the library
Difference between Fiction or Non-Fiction titles
Staying safe when online

These books will integrate skills taught in the media center. Each book has an accompanying CD and digital music file that allows the students to sing along with the book. The text in the book is set to music. The website also provides lesson plans that correlate with the book.

Benefits to my students

Research has shown time and again that music is an important component of learning.

Cantata Learning music and books engages every type of learner. Through music, movement, art, and text, you can access multiple learning styles with one book.

Music has been found to stimulate parts of the brain.
Reading is an experience, just as listening to music is an experience. In fact, when we read, there are things we do before, during, and after the experience. When we teach reading, our lessons are structured around this format. The same structure applies to listening to music.

By learning the music, many students are more likely to remember the skill being taught.

Budget Narrative

This set contains 4 books and accompanying CDs. This purchase will benefit much more than 200 because it can be reused year after year.
