Impact to My Classroom

# of Students Impacted: 140

These charms are given as incentives based on receiving a certain score on a Scholastic Reading Counts tests. These reading tests are based on reading books on each student's level, and then they take a test on that book. With a certain weekly averag score, students receive one charm per week. They wear their charm necklace whenever they want, and try to get as many charms as they can! This program supported the entire thrid grade team, which consisted of 8 teachers. *Note: I was not able to take pictures before school closed in March 2020. Once I am allowed back into the classroom, I will be able to take pictures of the necklaces and charm cards that were in progress.

Original Grant Overview

Goal

The goal of this project is to have students be motivated and develop into stronger readers by comprehending what they are reading. This will help them to be better prepared to take the high-stake test at the end of the year titled the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA).

What will be done with my students

This grant will be a reading incentive program to be used for the students in five third grade classrooms. Most books in our school library have a computerized quiz about the book. Students will take tests on the books of their choice, and with a weekly pass rate of 70%, they will be able to earn a charm each week. The students will be earning charms to wear on a necklace as they successfully complete reading quizzes.

Benefits to my students

Third grade is a high-stakes testing year. Third grade is also the introduction of the English-Language Arts Assessment (FSA). A major part of that assessment tests students on their reading comprehension. One large benefit of this program the grant will fund is that it assesses comprehension of reading passages. This will further help to prepare students to be successful on the FSA. Another benefit is that students will be motivated to read!

Budget Narrative

My budget is a request for funds to fulfill donations for 5 teachers and their students on my third grade team. I am requesting $376.00 to be able to purchase 10 sets of 25 charms for each of the five classrooms, as well as a 8 sets of 25 necklaces for eight classrooms.
