Thank you to the following investor for funding this grant.
Marcia and Morris Eaton - $329.97
The goal of this grant to teach the science of sound in a fun, hands-on way while at the same time incorporating music and movement into a science lesson.
Students will use the BoomWhackers to learn about the science of sound. The standard hands-on way of teaching sound is by using a rubber band or a straw where students build their own instrument. While functional, this doesn’t allow for much creativity or musical opportunities. The BoomWhackers are labeled with notes and students can quickly understand the science behind pitch. Then they can work together as a class to learn how to play real music, allowing them to have a deeper understanding of how different sounds are produces and how music is made.
The BoomWhackers are a simple and concrete way to explain sound. The short/small tubes produce a higher pitch sound and the longer/larger tubes produce a lower pitch sound. Students will learn this all while moving (vigorously) by “whacking” the tubes to create sound. Each tube produces a single note and students can correlate the size of the tube with the pitch produced. In addition, because the BoomWhacker kit provides a wide range of notes, students can learn to play actual songs to keep them motivated.
All money will be used to purchase 3 classroom sets of BoomWhackers including shipping cost. No further money will be needed to support this grant.
